Now Gerstacker introduces the very first de-alcoholized Glühwein.
The term Dealcoholized wine Is legally defined as wine that contains no more than 0.5% ABV. During the process, winemakers use high pressure to force wine through a membrane. This creates two solutions. One is a very concentrated wine, and the other is a combination of water and alcohol. Rather than discarding the water/alcohol solution, winemakers heat it to remove the alcohol.
Nuremberg mulled wine is an EU protected designation of special quality and goodness. This mulled wine has to be manufactured in Nuremberg.

Nordzucker Zucker Hut Sugar Cone & Tongs Set

Regular price $49.95Nordzucker Zucker Hut (Sugar Cone) is a sugar cone (literally "sugar hat"), around seven inches long, that is used in the preparation of a traditional German punch called the Feuerzangenbowle. The sugar cone is placed on the Spring Swiss Design Zucker Hut Tongs ("Zuckerzange Tura" in German).
This set contains:
Feuerzangenbowle is prepared in a bowl, similar to a fondue set, which usually is suspended over a small burner (rechaud). The bowl is filled with heated dry red wine spiced with cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise and orange peel, similar to mulled wine. Position the stainless steel tongs across the pot (Ø 8-10 inches / 20-26cm) sitting it on the outside edges. Lay the Zucker Hut Sugar Cone on its side on the tray. Dim the lights. Generously dowse the sugar cone with 151 proof Rum and carefully light the alcohol. The rum should be at room temperature in order to burn properly. More rum is poured with a ladle until all the sugar has melted and mixed with the wine. As the rum-soaked sugar cone melts and drips into the wine with all its spices and hints of citrus, the punch gets sweeter and more mellow. The resulting punch is served in mugs while the burner keeps the bowl warm. For some, the ceremony is more important than the drink itself, celebrating the gathering of friends and conveying a notion of German Gemütlichkeit.

Regular price $44.95Spring Swiss Design Zucker Hut Tongs is a large Sugar Tongs ("Zuckerzange Tura" in German) used for making a whole pot of Feuerzangenbowle. Feuerzangenbowle is not just a hot drink...it is an event! A fiery spectacle that brings friends together around a flaming pot of mulled wine spiked with high-proof Rum.
Instructions: Position the stainless steel tongs across the pot (Ø 8-10 inches / 20-26cm) sitting it on the outside edges. Lay the Zucker Hut Sugar Cone on its side on the tray. Generously dowse the sugar cone with high proof Rum and carefully light the alcohol. As the Rum burns it caramelizes the sugar which runs down the tray into the Mulled Wine in the pot and turns it into the dark magic of Feuerzangenbowle!

This hot winter drink has served as the inspiration for songs, literary works, several films, and even a musical play. Feuerzangenbowle (FOY-er-tsangen-BOH-luh), or Fire-tongs Punch, is a seasonal alcoholic hot beverage based on a much better known winter drink called Glühwein (hot mulled wine). Fire-tongs Punch gets its name from the original practice of using a fireplace tong to hold the sugar loaf (Zuckerhut) used in preparing the punch.
