Our story began in Austria.

More than 46 years ago, our family started introducing authentic European wines and specialty foods to the United States through Wein-Bauer Imports. Over the decades, we’ve built lasting relationships with producers across Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, and beyond—many of them multi-generational family businesses that share our passion for quality and tradition.

In 2025, European Deli became part of our family’s next chapter. Our goal is simple: make it easier for families across America to enjoy authentic European foods while supporting the producers who have been making them for generations.

Direct from Europe’s Family Producers

What makes us different is how we source our products.

While many specialty food retailers purchase from distributors or other importers, we work directly with the people who make the products whenever possible. We’ve spent decades building relationships with winemakers, bakers, chocolatiers, cheesemakers, and specialty food artisans across Europe.

Sometimes that means visiting a well-known producer. Other times, it means driving down a quiet country road to a village with only a few hundred residents to meet a family that’s been making the same recipe for generations. Those hidden gems are often the products we’re most excited to bring to your table.

By importing many of our products directly, we eliminate unnecessary middlemen, maintain exceptional quality, and offer authentic European specialties that simply aren’t available through traditional distribution channels.

Today, three generations of the Bauer family are part of the journey—from discovering new products throughout Europe to managing imports and carefully packing orders here in the United States.

And yes, our three grandchildren have already earned their unofficial title as our Certified Taste Testers, making sure every new favorite gets their approval before it reaches your table.
